My name is Julie Fleming-Brown. I'm an
Atlanta native, though I now live in part-time in Orlando as well. I began coaching in 2005, and
I work with clients all over the United States and Canada. I am a graduate
of Coach U's Core Essentials Program and will receive my leadership coaching certificate in spring 2007
from Georgetown University. I'm an ICF
(International Coaching Federation) member, and one I expect to become
ICF certified this summer. I am a certified Print®
coach, and I also offer the DISC®
assessment.

Who I coach
I coach on a variety of clients: entrepreneurs who are starting and growing
their businesses; women who want to improve their health; people who are exploring
their goals and devising a strategy to reach them; and those struggling with
relationship challenges. My clients are bright, capable, and independent,
and they all want more out of life.

How I coach
My coaching style is light but intense: I listen deeply to my clients so
that I hear not only what's said but also how it's said, and - sometimes
more importantly - what's unsaid. I enjoy bringing humor into my coaching
conversations. I love helping clients find a shift in perspective, a new
approach that leads to new solutions. I am a Christian and I'm comfortable
bringing spirituality into coaching, but I'm equally comfortable with
clients who prefer not to do so. Friends have described me as caring,
loving, adaptable, committed, intelligent/educated, empathetic, cheerful,
friendly, diplomatic, bubbly, kind, funny, poised, open, and spiritual.
What I know for sure is that we each have the ability to make our lives
better through achievable steps, and that we're better equipped to make
those steps when we're working in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere. I
believe that joy is always possible, even in the midst of grief. And I
believe, as Meister Eckhart wrote, "If the only prayer we say in our
lifetime is 'thank you', that would suffice."

My Background
Education and Prior Work
I graduated from Vanderbilt University with a B.A. in English in 1990; from
the Emory University School of Law in 1993; and from Georgia State
University with a B.S. magna cum laude in Biology in 1998. I've been a
practicing attorney for about 13 years, having clerked for a federal judge,
then working as an independent contractor for several Atlanta firms while I
completed my Biology degree. I've practiced in a variety of setting, including
to intellectual property boutique firms and the Atlanta office of Jones Day,
a large international firm. I now practice part-time with an Atlanta firm,
focusing on business litigation. I am passionately interested in bioethics and
biotechnology, particularly because those issues call on a wide range of
disciplines including science, law, medicine, theology, and more - and
because it's only by working together that we as a society will ever
ethically reap the benefits that technology promises.
Although I enjoyed litigation, I realized over the course of a couple of
years that I prefer to work collaboratively, to help build something rather
than to tear it apart. I considered refocusing my practice but decided
instead to pursue coaching. I enjoy working with people who are defining
their dreams and building the lives they love, and I find it particularly
rewarding to walk with people through the various crossroads of life. I've
worked with a coach for several years, and as I was musing about my skills,
my values, and the kind of life I want to live, coaching came to me in a
flash. I am a coach.

My Family
My family is small and very close. My husband is based in Orlando, and we share
a home there with a very spoiled cat named Roo. My father, who still lives in
Atlanta, has custody of my two German Shepherds, Patches and Jake - who would not
appreciate the Florida heat. My mother died in 2003 and I miss her terribly,
but I also know she's never far from me. And I'm blessed with a circle of
friends, some from college and some I've met more recently, who are the kind
of friends I could call at 2 AM if I needed them; they're the family of my
heart. |
